How to Become a Massage Therapist in Maryland

When it comes to practicing massage therapy professionally, you will need to meet certain state and local requirements depending on where you intend to practice. In 48 out of 5o states, you need some kind of credential to work as a massage therapist and each state has its own regulations. In 44 out of the 48 states previously mentioned (plus Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands), you are required to take and pass the MBLEx to become licensed to practice as a massage therapist.

According to US News, “The increasing number of spas and massage clinics in recent years underscores a growing demand for massage services. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects massage therapist employment growth of 22 percent between 2014 and 2024, adding 36,500 more professionals to this field.” The same article lists careers in massage therapy as follows: “Massage Therapists rank #8 in Best Health Care Support Jobs and #50 in The 100 Best Jobs.”
